Contemporary Worship

There...just...aren't...words......
Sorry, folks. I had to delete the link because The Way, International must have gotten wind of the traffic to the video and have redirected the link to their home page. I will try to find the original link and repost it in the future. Sly, they are....

In the immortal words of Charlie Brown, AAAUUGH! Fer cryin' out loud, Steve, you coulda just RickRolled us. That would've been ever so much more merciful.

You're right, there are no words for this, but "barfaricious" begins to approach it, doesn't it?

Is there an antidote, or am I just gonna perish right here and now?

Wow, they must have practiced that a long time! And that might be the reason for the expressions on their faces...they were stapled in place.

I tried to watch the whole thing, but in the end it proved impossible. Scary and just really bad.

Are you sure this really wasn't a clip from some really bad Grade F film? (wayyyyy past Grade B)

Dianne, who are you referring to in your comment "RickRolled" - or do I want to know?

No Catherine, it is real. The Way Ministries has been around for a while (they are a non-Trinitarian quasi-cult from the 70's). Unfortunately Christianity spawns some of the most godawful, bizarre and tasteless (and sad) displays of human egos, wannabe behaviors and good intentions in the name of "ministry" gone awry. And to think no one in their church told them the truth...or even scarier, everyone in their church thinks this is good stuff.

That's just so ... "inspirational." I wouldn't be surprised if hardened criminals and drug addicts just convert on the spot.

So The Way International's idea of ascetic labor is to try to master moonwalking about 20 years after everyone else stopped doing it? And then, if you're ready to climb the Ladder of Divine Ascent, you incorporate hep cat finger wags and Charleston steps from the '20s?

Can't wait for their next hit, "The Lord is the Bees Knees."

Update, 10 minutes later: That song is stuck in my head.

I am SO suing you.

LOL! Yeah... it IS kind of catchy, but I can't get the goofy grin of that guy out of my head. Maybe we can both sue The Way Ministries.

That guy's look reminds me of the way Christian Bale's character in American Psycho.

I wonder if that is coincidental?

Actually, I was rather impressed. They were stylishly synchronized and in step -- kinda like an Episcopal High Mass by Manhattan Transfer. It was not particularily Christian, but I've seen much worse. Ever seen the Catholic Charismatic Mass with the big puppets?

I'm with JT on this one. Sure, the grinning is a little creepy, and some of the moves are dated, and the racy cha-cha stuff at the beginning is perhaps inappropriate for a church service--but homeboy really LAYS IT DOWN toward the end. His crazy-legged-scarecrow-Pinocchio break down is real entertainment! Thanks, Steve. I haven't seen dancing like this since D.D. got drunk at the company party.
