Old Jewish Saying

Q: Why does God not speak with man face to face as He did with Moses?

A: Because modern man will not bow low enough to hear God.

I love it. Reminds me of Chesterton's poem, "Gloria in Profundis":

I tried writing a poem on this theme, once. Can't find it right now, but part of it went something like this:

I lifted my eyes to look for God
Thinking Him highest and just
But I couldn't see Him until I, prostrate,
Found Him descended to dust.

I lifted my voice to hymn the Most High
Giving Him praise, as is meet.
Yet, when I had finished, I found Him below,
Kneeling and washing my feet.
