When Instructing Others

That's funny. I have friends and acquaintances who should take this to heart, since it happens to them all the time. I think I'll send 'em all a link.

Ooh, this mama feels convicted. Thank you. My kids needed this.

Dear S-P,

Forgive my inability to detach myself from your illustrated graces: I am a super-fan! This one is especially hilarious. Having been on both ends (as we all have been), I am trying to adopt a duck-and-shut-up policy. Trying!

Yup...that's me all over the place. I think its gold coming out of my mouth...but it is really not.

Kyrie Elesion! May I learn Holy Silence and Prayer.

Yaah! NO pure truth this early in the morning! I'm a *very* gifted person -- other people *really* need the blessing of my advice and subtle mote-removal!

Yes,

Sometimes, many times, silence is indeed golden.

How hard it has been for me to learn and to have that learning "stay learned" that just because someone--usually someone I love like my siblings or my children or my best friend--seeks out my listening ear that does not mean they have sought out my "golden tongue". I mean, after all, I have LIVED and KNOW LOTS OF STUFF. In fact, my mother and I talk frequently about all kinds of things and at the end of the talk, one or the other of us will say something on the order of "Now that we have solved all the problems of the known universe, ....." And we both laugh!! Alix

Dear Alix,

Well, as I'm sure you and your mother know, those of us who have solved all the problems of the known universe are now qualified to move on to solving all the problems of all unknown and hypothetical universes. Welcome to the club! And see that you don't contradict me.

You may occasionally overhear some grumblings from the poor souls upon whom we bestow our golden wisdom about wishing to actually send us to some other universe, but you know how ungrateful people can be sometimes. Best to ignore it.
