Snapshot of Providence

So, two weeks ago I was picking up Moo as he was burrowing under the house. When I did his back leg kicked back and scratched my wrist. I washed it and went on with my life. A couple days later the scratches looked like red tapioca. I couldn't afford it, but I went to an urgent care center. The doctor grimaced and said, "Wow, how did that happen?"  I told her "My turtle scratched me..." She looked puzzled. I said, "He's THIS big" holding my arms in a circle. She said, that's a new one on me I'll have to go look at something.  I told her I already Googled it and there's nothing on the internet about turtle scratches.  She came back and said I was right. She prescribed a 40.00 antibiotic ointment and OTC fungicide and said if it doesn't clear up in 5 days come back.

After a week it started clearing up.  By two weeks it was just a pink patch.  Then I lost the tube of ointment somewhere at work. But it looked like it was healed up so I didn't think much of it.

In the meantime, Bank of America notified us they're foreclosing on the house if we don't give them 2K by the end of the month.  But I have work and we might be able to pull it off if we don't pay anything else.

Two days ago the patch on my wrist started itching again, then the blisters came back. By work this morning it looked like it did two weeks ago.  So, I stopped at the urgent care again on my way home from work to see if I could get a refill on the ointment prescription without having to pay for another office visit.  No such luck.

The doctor was the same one who saw me two weeks ago. She said, that shouldn't happen... you probably have a systemic staph infection... its a good thing you lost that ointment. It cost another office visit and more money for a new prescription but I guess that means I'll live to work to keep my family in our house.

So bad news is good news is bad news is good news.  We just have to hold out for the end of the sentence sometimes.

And to think that as I was clicking on the link to read this very post, I was wondering what Moo had been up to lately. Now I know: trying to kill you. Sweet.

good>bad>good. The story of salvation in a nutshell.

Wow. Prayers for healing; my goodness.

Sorry to hear of the continued $ difficulties.

May God guide and strenghten us.

I don't know why I thought of Johnny Cash getting kicked in the stomach by his pet ostrich. It got infected, and sent him to the hospital. After he got out, he went out and shot the ostrich; the wound continued to cause complications for years.

Reptiles carry all kinds of nasty bugs, and 21st century Americans' immune systems are weak due to our diet.

Watch those hospitals s-p, they're crawling with MRSA (staph). A buddy of mine bumped his head last year, went to the hospital, got MRSA, and now he's on dialysis.

Will offer unworthy prayers for you. Please watch your gut health, if you know how - it's where most of your immune system resides.

Fr. Sean, LOL! "Turtle Kills Owner...Eventually"

Anon 4:59, I think they'll need to shoot me if I can't see a turtle's roundhouse kick coming. Hmmm... a new Moo photo idea: Chuck Mooris? I know someone who died of MRSA after a small cut on his finger at work. I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure turtle's and ostrich claws are not the cleanest things in the world to be scratched by. Thanks for prayers all. I just can't afford any unforseen expenses and days off work in the next two weeks.

Shame on you, Moo. Boo Moo. Nothing personal, though. But boo.

Your post gave me the final motivation I needed to update my coffee mug collection. I'll enjoy my Irish Cream flavored non-dairy creamer even more now. And my wife will enjoy her coffee in a mug that includes mild profanity.

Prayers for all of you guys.

Prayers to you for your difficult situations. I bet an online auction of your original artwork would easily get you that $2K you need!

Dianne said...

Yikes. Hope you get well much sooner than . . . eventually.

Meanwhile, don't we all need some more Pithless Products? Yes we do.

The online auction of your original artwork sounds like a great idea, too.

Steve:

Regarding foreclosure: get a lawyer. Seriously. My lawyer brother (in Ohio, so he can't help, but this is epidemic) estimates that more than half of the foreclosures being filed are not procedurally correct, and in fact are so deficient that they would get tossed out if the people had a competent attorney.

Best part: if it's actually procedurally deficient the way a lot of them I've seen are, the bank pays your lawyer.

Feel free to email me at engelcr--at--yahoo--com if you want any further explanation of what to tell your lawyer to look for.

Regards.
Some anonymous dude with a sick sense of humor who laughs at your Orthographs.

Steve,
I hope you got my email. I had an old address so I hope it's still a good one.

Prayers for you and your family, and I finally got around to ordering a copy of Orthographs, too. Hope both the health and the work situation improve soon.

Prayers. I am also a great believer in the efficacy of hydrogen peroxide.

Today 2 copies of Orthographs arrived safely in my NZ letterbox.

Hi all, Thanks for the prayers and on and off-blog offers of help. Its truly (really, truly) humbling to have such friends that I've never met in person. For the first time in over a year I actually have 2-3 weeks of work scheduled ahead of me. If all goes well and nothing happens we'll be able to meet the deadline if we put off all the other bills. The house is priority since our payments are about the same as apartment rent here... and we couldn't afford deposits etc. to move. We're juggling ten plates and a chainsaw, but so far no one has lost a limb. :)

Don't tell Moo about the chainsaw. He might get ideas!! Alix

This brings back such a painful memory. I was small and had seen those little CUTE turtles in the pet store, about 2 inches across. My father was a civil engineer specializing in waterworks & sewage treatment issues. When I said I wanted one of those neat little animals my dad said no, they carried something he called "Salmonella". Sigh. That seems to be why they were created, to get that bug from place to place before we invented canned food.
The big ones are just as effective.
