I wasn't quite sure where you were going with this, or he was going with that.

JD, Actually it is a rough paraphrase of something a "cradle" Orthodox said to us (group of new converts) at coffee hour one day:
"You guys talk more about fasting than anyone I've ever heard... why don't you just do it?" Unfortunately I've never taken the advice. sigh.

We definitely make it harder on ourselves with all the thinking and talking. I think it's partly to do with living in a society obsessed with food and diets and it's hard for a lot of us to snap out of that for Lent so we approach it still going on about carbs and quantities and my doctor says this and my nutritionist says that... Every diet tells us we can have it all, we can become slender while still enjoying our favourite foods, sometimes I wonder if that utter tripe isn't at the back of our minds in Lent as well :)

It's so true!!! Someone on facebook at the beginning of lent asked "what should I fast from" I suggest fasting from talking about what your fasting from. Read Isaiah, and the NT
