Ah, the sort I run into are the opposite end, "how to prostrate in high heals and short skirt" or "how low a neck line before you give a peep show when receiving the Eucharist."

NH, Yeah, I've seen that too, but I need to keep the blog at least PG and my wife won't let me draw "Cosmodox" (or would that be Orthopolitan?) LOL!

Heh, heh. Thanks for keeping us laughing at ourselves, Steve.

Not sure where, or if, my wife sits on the spectrum, but she won't even cover her head outside in 10deg.F. weather. Skirt? Forget it. It's jeans and T-shirt everywhere.

LOVE IT!!!

...and my headcovering has many more uses. Like corralling small children during Liturgy, and impromptu mummy making during coffee hour!

Alexander, I'm thinking something like "GQ" for vestments, or maybe a "Liturgy Illustrated Vestment Issue". :)

"Liturgy Illustrated Vestment Issue." I love it! Can't wait to see that one.

I cover my head in church and I am a convert. I cover my head because for mostof my adult life I have been in churches that do this. When I first started coming to an Orthodox Church (and at my church none of the women cover), I didn't cover my head because I didn't want to be perceived as "DIFFERENT". I tried it for months and months. After my Chrismation, I asked Father if it was okay to cover my head as I still did not feel comfortable in church with my head uncovered. I did not want to cause any uproar or be obnoxious, but I knew I would be more comfortable if I could cover my head. He told me it was perfectly okay to cover my head if I wished. In fact, he told me, in the "old country", most women DO cover their heads. Since I had never been in the old country I really didn't know that!! He added that the rules in the US were relaxed for cultural reasons. So I cover my head and wear a skirt--usually fairly long so as not to reveal what shouldn't be revealed when bowing etc.--My inner self feels more respectful and more prayerful that way. Kinda funny isn't it!!

Oh--and I vote for Orthopolitan....just waiting for that one!! LOL

Alix, My wife didn't wear a head covering in our first Church for the same reason, she didn't want to stand out or look "overly pious". I appreciate the fact she dresses modestly but not "frumpily".

This was super funny! Most of the women in our parish cover...and it's a fairly even split between convert frumpy (that's where I fall) and Orthopolitan. I had a Byzantine Catholic ask me once, "Why do converts all dress like Russian peasants?" I was puzzled. I had not realized I was dressing like a Russian peasant. Like s-p said about beards...for me at least it's more about dressing like a hippy and being able to claim piety. That's my excuse, and I'm stickin' to it!

Happy 2014! May I suggest, for an eventual forthcoming issue, "Top 5 all-season layers and tips so effective even YOU will forget you're a woman"...
