He's back. For reals this time. What with wordy posts and all.

I noticed a curiously high tendency towards [Ultra]Montanism during my Protestant days. The things that "God" told them weren't always veiled ego massages, but they tend to make one wonder.

'I was praying last night and God told me that I should help the outreach in Mexico.' Really? What does God sound like? Does he sound like the (theoretical) God who told my neighbor to beat his wife?

I try not to be so quickly dismissive of "God told me" stories. As a friend of mine once said, "It's amazing when the Bible reads you more than you read it."

On another topic, I was playing with a thought in my head--"The Catholic Church kept its catholicity at the expense of its orthodoxy, while the Orthodox Church kept its orthodoxy at the expense of its catholicity." Thoughts?

I am very pleased with the whole "dependent variable on the y-axis" thing!

Whenever I'm driving across Mississippi and/or Alabama, one of the things I like to do is tune-in the AM radio stations, which turns out to be mostly local religious broadcasting (drives my wife crazy.) I remember one black preacher in particular who prefaced everything with "God told ME to tell YOU..."

Had a Pentecostal friend who prefaced nearly every discussion of her decisions and opinions this way. It was dizzying how often "God"' changed His mind!
